Sourdough Cornbread Recipe
Sourdough cornbread is a delicious and hearty bread that is perfect for any occasion. The sourdough starter adds a tangy flavor to the bread, while the cornmeal gives it a slightly sweet and nutty taste. CORNBREAD DOUGH
- 1 cup sourdough starter (active or inactive)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup melted butter, cooled
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- extra honey ( for drizzle)
- Optional Mix-ins: Jalapenos, cheddar cheese, chopped bacon, corn kernels
PROCEDURE:

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease an 8x13"-inch for a full recipe, or an 8x8-inch baking dish for a half recipe. Alternatively you can cook it in a cast iron skillet with vegetable oil.

In your kitchen aid mixing bowl (or a large mixing bowl), whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In another mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, milk, butter, honey, and eggs.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and allow your mixer to stir until combied.

Pour the batter into the greased baking dish or skillet and smooth out the top.
- Optional: Drizzle the top with honey to create a crispy top crust

Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.

Allow the bread to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Sourdough cornbread can be served warm or at room temperature. It's great with a dollop of butter and a drizzle of honey. You can also serve it alongside chili, soup, or stew for a hearty and comforting meal. Enjoy!
